Introduction of the Italian football
Italy’s national football team represents Italy in international
football competition and is currently world champion. They have had a
great success and have won the 2006 FIFA world cup. The best part of all
is that Italy is categorized amongst the top teams in international
football and is known as the second most successful national team in the
history of the world cup with having won four titles.

The four titles that it had won are as on 1934, 1938, 1982 and 2006
and that is just one less than Brazil. Well, coming towards Italian
football’s further introduction, the team is known by its nickname
‘Azzurri’ and the traditional color of the national team is azure blue.
Azzuri is associated with federation Italiana guioco calico and the head
coach of the team is Marcello Lippi with a captain named Fabio cannavaro.
The team’s top scorer is luigi Riva. Italian football team started on
with their first match in Milan on 15 May 1910 and defeated France by a
score of 6-2 which is truly a great victory.
The first captain of the team was Francesco Cali with other team
members de simony, Varisco, Cali; Trerè, Fossati, Capello; Debernardi,
Rizzi, Cevenini I, Lana, Boiocchi. This deserving team bought its first
bronze medal in 1928 summer Olympics which took place in Amsterdam and
after losing final against Uruguay, Azzurri’s had a successful and
fabulous victory for 11-3 against Egypt and secured third place in the
competition. Now coming towards the year (1968-1976), Azzurri won their
first major competition in 1968 since 1938 world cup by beating
Yugoslavia in Rome to achieve the European championship title.

The year 1978-1982 brought clear and amazing victory for Italy. They
became the world cup winners for the third time. The 1978 FIFA world cup
was held in Argentina and saw some new Italian players out of them the
most famous was Paolo Rossi. In the first round, Italy played very well
and was the only team in the tournament to defend the eventual champions
and host team Argentina. Then beginning with the second round, West
Germany, Austria and Netherlands led Italy to the third place final
where it was unfortunately defeated by Brazil from2-1.
Moving forward, Italy then hosted the 1980 UEFA European football
championship and with the host Italy qualified for the finals but was
beaten by Czechoslovakia in the third place match on penalties but this
was not only the ending, Italy won 1982 world cup triumph. Paolo Rossi
was the player who won the golden boot with six wonderful goals and the
40 years old captain goal keeper Dino Zoff became one of the oldest ever
player to win the world cup. In 1984-2004, Italy still did not leave the
spirit to win and the team played wonderfully. The team is full of born
leaders all over the pitch and made their best to win but did not win
another tournament and failed to qualify for the 1984 European
championship.

The year 1988 brought them reach the semifinals of the European
championship where they were defeated by USSR from 2-0. Azzurri’s
continued loosing and had faced very difficult times in the 1984-2004
but the year 2006 again brought them a good luck and Italian football
team won the 2006 world cup and became champions for the fourth time.
This year was an ultimate one and in honor of Italy winning the FIFA
world cup for a fourth time, all the world cup squads were awarded and
honored the Italian order of merit of cavaliere ufficale. Azzurri’s have
had a great time playing world cups and obviously they have achieved
what they truly deserved by virtual winning.
